Why This Happens
Rollers are the small wheels on each side of every door section that ride inside the vertical and horizontal track. Builder-grade doors usually ship with steel rollers running on unsealed bearings, and after roughly seven to ten years of cycles the bearings dry out, the wheels develop flat spots, and the stems bend. The symptoms show up gradually: a grinding or rattling noise that gets louder over months, a door that shudders or hesitates partway through travel, visible wobble in a section as it moves, or black metal dust along the track. Worn rollers matter beyond the noise, because a roller that binds pulls the door sideways in the track and puts extra strain on the opener, the hinges, and eventually the track itself. Replacement is straightforward: we swap all ten to twelve rollers in one visit rather than the two or three that have obviously failed, and we normally fit sealed-bearing nylon rollers, which run considerably quieter than steel and do not need lubrication.
